This week on WPblab Bridget Willard & Jason Tucker speak with Sé Reed of Sé Reed Media about how small businesses can use WordPress. There is much ranting and raving about the difficulties of getting small businesses to choose WordPress over companies like Wix and Squarespace. Sé shares her perspective on educating new users to WordPress and her quest for making the entry level of self hosted WordPress easier for small businesses.

I think it goes both ways – sometimes clients seem savvier than they are and it’s a surprise to a dev at the end of a project when there’s no content ready, etc. etc. Experience! Devs need to walk clients through the WHOLE process
-
@techno_siren boom
-
Second only to not getting content is social media strategy – as a dev, I am most often expected to provide copy and photos, and complete social media strategies. So I do that now, but I didn’t WANT to do that for a long time, I just wanted to build sites.
-
@techno_siren oh wow
-
THIRDLY if you are offering agency style services and you don’t have your support packages figured out, do that. Right now.

on boarding forms for clients should include this type of worksheet

This example contract is in French for Quebec and it’s made open source. It also went through a lawyer already. A WordPress dev put it out there. https://www.docracy.com/0ph6k9b6pnr/entente-de-service-de-developpement-web

I interrogate clients on their business model so I can figure out what can be handled by the site. I get confused looks when I ask about things that aren’t happening on a computer – yet.
